Doctor of Education: Leadership for Educational Justice

I am starting a doctoral program at the University of Redlands in Redlands, California.

I am filled with excitement!

I love to read, discuss issues, do research and create things. Thus, this program has me filled with hope. Hope of being a part of solutions to challenges we have as a society.

I love the schedule; evenings and Saturdays.

I love the courses I will take this semester. First, I will take a course that examines leadership perspectives in organizations via a historical perspective for social justice practice. This sounds amazing!

Then I am taking a class on the history of education via a social justice lens. I already have homework in the class and read about Education in the United States before Europeans arrived, The History of North American Education 15,000 BCE - 1491 by Milton Gaither. It was great read. It provided context to understanding the complexities we face in North America.

Finally I am taking a Literature Review course where I will research, read and write to my hearts content in preparation for my dissertation.

All of this with the backdrop of COVID-19!

But I love it! I know it will be hard. I know I will face challenges. I am a mother, wife, daughter and a teacher. I will have to balance work, life and school, but I look forward to the challenges.
